Senior Citizens' Legal Services is proud to be going through a period of unprecedented growth.  During the pandemic, the demand for legal services skyrocketed.  At the same time , the nation's 65-and-older population grew by 34.2% (US Census Bureau).  No other group was more severely harmed by Covid-19 than seniors.  Forced isolation, fear and stress created innumerable problems including abuse, fraud and neglect.  At SCLS, we have proudly met this increased need by nearly tripling our budget, increasing staff and serving 43% more seniors in 2021 then in 2020.

• 35-hour full time work week, with Friday afternoon office closure;
• Employer paid medical, dental, vision, and Employee Assistance Program;
• First year 16 vacation days and 14 holidays, with accrual based on 40 hr/wk; Sick leave: Eight hours/month, with accrual based on 40 hr/wk; Two Additional Floating holiday days per year;

• Supervising Attorney (Santa Cruz) ​​​

The Supervising Attorney provides comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in SCLS’ priority areas, including but not limited to housing, public benefits, elder abuse, and consumer fraud. Overseeing our small team of staff and volunteer attorneys and our robust internship program, this position requires someone to be an expert organizer, scheduler, trusted advisor, and possess the ability to communicate clearly. This position plays a critical role in the organization and, if desired, will work closely with our organization's Executive Director in the overall strategies, hiring and goal setting for the organization. Requires a thorough commitment to the core values, mission, and vision of Senior Citizens’ Legal Services.

• Court Partnership Attorney or Paralegal, Housing Law (Santa Cruz)

The goal of this innovative partnership project is to keep people safely housed by educating both sides in housing disputes and promoting mediation prior to unlawful detainer ("UD") hearings. This full-time position will provide in-person, in pro per services to indigent tenants and landlords at the Santa Cruz County Law Library and at SCLS. The target population for these new services are indigent landlords and tenants from across Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. This is not a remote position. All applicable COVID protocols must be followed.

• Paralegal or Legal Advocate (Santa Cruz, Watsonville, Hollister) 

The Paralegal or Legal Advocate is the primary client contact for a wide variety of important legal matters for our professional, non-profit law office. The position requires excellent research, writing and communication skills as our legal advocates are critical to helping our clients obtain the access to justice they deserve. This position upholds a strict level of organization, communication, confidentiality and professionalism. Entry level attorneys or experienced paralegal workers welcomed and will be trained. Bi-lingual strongly preferred.

• Development Director

​The Development Director will engage in grant writing, grant management and other fundraising efforts in support of our mission. SCLS is in an exciting period of unprecedented growth and is solidifying our foundation in order to ensure sustainable expansion. This position is critical to that goal. In addition to grant seeking, grant writing and systems developed, SCLS has produced an impressive, fun Charity Gala for the past two years and the Development Director will oversee this continued effort. The position requires excellent communication skills and a strict level of organization, communication, confidentiality and professionalism.
Our preference is for this position to be based near our Santa Cruz, Watsonville, or Hollister offices, but we will consider applications from especially qualified candidates seeking to work remotely from other parts of the country.
